Quality of Life and Aging

After working over ten years in the long-term care industry I have seen how loss of home, family and friends, pride, purpose and play have affected people’s quality of life. A reduced quality of life negatively influences quality of health, making quality of life and quality of care an issue. Never before has there been so much information supporting the need to understand a person’s daily habits and history to help ensure they have the highest quality of life possible.

In order to provide person-centered care the entire care team needs to understand a person’s history, their interests, their likes and dislikes, and their medical needs. Many times assessments are being completed as a task to be done and not as an opportunity to learn and engage a person to create a better and more meaningful experience.

I have included a link to a neural pathways exercise that is designed to get a discussion on the power of neural networks started.

Care planning tools are designed to help staff, residents and family/friends create a personalized care experience. Dementia information is available to help the family support there loved one.
